Norskling – Norwegian school based in Oslo · Online lessons via Zoom · All levels welcome

1. Why choose private Norwegian lessons?

Learning Norwegian in a group course is a great start — but private lessons take your progress to another level. When you work one-on-one with a dedicated teacher, every minute of the lesson is spent on your weaknesses, your goals, and your pace.

Whether you want to prepare for the Norskprøven exam, communicate better at work, help your children with homework, or simply feel more at home in Norway — private lessons give you exactly the focus you need.

🎯

100% tailored to you

No generic curriculum. Your lessons are built around your goals, level and the situations you actually face.

Faster progress

You move at your own pace — skip what you know, spend more time on what challenges you.

🕐

Flexible schedule

Morning, evening or weekend — you choose the time that fits your life. Lessons are on Zoom, from anywhere.

💬

Maximum speaking time

In a private lesson you speak Norwegian the entire hour — not 5 minutes out of 60 like in a big group.

🔄

Instant feedback

Mistakes are corrected on the spot and explained clearly — so you don't keep repeating the same errors.

🌍

Online – no commute

All lessons happen on Zoom. You save time, learn from home, and can record sessions to review later.

2. What to expect from your lessons

Every learner is different, which is why there is no fixed lesson plan. Your first session starts with a short conversation to understand your background, goals and current level. From there, your teacher builds a programme specifically for you.

Depending on what you need, lessons can focus on:

  • Speaking and conversation – build confidence for everyday life in Norway
  • Grammar and writing – master the structures that make Norwegian feel natural
  • Listening comprehension – understand Norwegians, dialects and fast speech
  • Exam preparation – targeted practice for Norskprøven at A2, B1 or B2
  • Norwegian for work – meetings, emails, presentations and professional vocabulary
  • Reading and vocabulary – expand your knowledge systematically with texts from real life
Lessons in English, Norwegian or Polish

Explanations can be given in English or Polish when needed — especially useful for beginners. As your level grows, lessons gradually shift to full Norwegian for maximum immersion. You decide what works best for you.

3. Who are private lessons for?

Private Norwegian lessons are a great fit for many different situations. You might recognise yourself in one of these:

  • You recently moved to Norway and need to learn Norwegian fast — for work, daily life or residency requirements
  • You've taken group courses before but feel stuck and want to break through to the next level
  • You want to prepare for the Norskprøven exam (A2, B1 or B2) and need structured, focused practice
  • Your schedule is unpredictable and a fixed weekly group class doesn't work for you
  • You work in a Norwegian company and need better Norwegian for meetings and communication
  • You're a parent who wants to help your children with their Norwegian schoolwork
  • You're learning Norwegian for personal reasons — heritage, relationships or simply a love of the language

4. All levels – from absolute beginner to advanced

It doesn't matter where you're starting from. Private lessons work at every stage of the learning journey.

LevelWhat you'll work on
A1 – Beginner First words and phrases, introducing yourself, numbers, days, basic questions and answers. Building a foundation from scratch.
A2 – Elementary Everyday conversations, simple descriptions, past tense, shopping, directions. Preparing for the A2 Norskprøven.
B1 – Intermediate Confident communication on familiar topics, work and social situations, longer texts. Preparing for B1 Norskprøven — required for citizenship.
B2 – Upper intermediate Complex discussions, professional Norwegian, nuanced writing, advanced grammar. Preparing for the B2 Norskprøven for university or professional requirements.
Not sure what level you are?

That's perfectly fine. Simply mention in your email that you're unsure of your level — Monika will ask a few quick questions or suggest a short placement conversation before the first lesson so you start in exactly the right place.

5. How it works – 3 simple steps

6. Private lessons vs. group courses

Both options have their place. Here's an honest comparison to help you decide what suits you best — or whether a combination makes sense.

7. Frequently asked questions

How long is each private lesson?

Standard lessons are 60 minutes. Shorter sessions (45 minutes) can also be arranged — for example for intensive exam vocabulary practice or conversational drilling. Mention your preference when you get in touch.

How often should I take lessons?

Most learners see strong results with one or two lessons per week. Once a week is enough to make steady, consistent progress. Twice a week accelerates things significantly, especially if you have an exam or a work deadline coming up. You can always adjust the frequency as you go.

Do I need any materials or textbooks?

Not necessarily. Your teacher will prepare materials based on your goals. If a textbook is recommended, Monika will advise you which one — popular options are På vei and Stein på stein. Many lessons can be run with teacher-prepared materials alone, particularly at the beginner level or for conversation practice.

Can I take lessons if I'm not based in Oslo?

Absolutely. All lessons are online via Zoom, so it makes no difference whether you're in Bergen, Tromsø, Stavanger, or anywhere else in Norway — or even abroad. The time zone is Norway (CET/CEST) unless you arrange otherwise.

Can private lessons help me prepare for the Norskprøven?

Yes — this is one of the most popular reasons people choose private lessons at Norskling. The Norskprøven has very specific components (reading, listening, writing, speaking), and a private teacher can target each part precisely based on your weak points. Lessons can include past exam tasks, timed writing practice, and mock speaking sessions. Many students who struggled in group courses have passed the exam after a period of private preparation.

What if I want to cancel or reschedule?

Life happens. Monika works flexibly, and lessons can generally be rescheduled with reasonable notice. Specific cancellation terms will be agreed when you book your first session.

Can my employer pay for the lessons?

Yes. Many Norwegian employers and international companies cover Norwegian language lessons for their employees as part of professional development or integration support. Norskling can issue invoices for private lesson packages. Mention this in your email and Monika will advise on the practicalities.
